Our School

Principal's Welcome

I warmly welcome you to view what we have to offer at Fenwick Primary School.

Fenwick began as a result of the amalgamation of Oamaru South and Awamoa School in 2001 and is located on the old Oamaru South School site. We are very proud of the traditions and history of both schools and these have shaped the development of our new school.

Fenwick boasts attractive grounds, new facilities, up-to-date resources, excellent teachers, great kids and a supportive Board of Trustees and Community.

Our school provides quality programmes with an emphasis on literacy and numeracy, and has created a unique school culture based on a shared vision and values for our pupils.

We welcome new families and look forward to introducing you to “the Fenwick way.”

School

Fenwick Primary School is a U5 contributing school situated on the South Hill in Oamaru, close to two kindergartens and to the central business and historic areas. We have a sound financial base, are well resourced and have developed a special and caring culture. Our quality teachers and programmes ensure high quality education is delivered in a safe and supportive environment. The Board of Trustees, with the community, has developed a Charter, revised policies and procedures as well as forming a strategic plan to lead developments over the next three years.

Our December school roll includes 12% Maori pupils, and 12% Pasifika. The socio-economic make-up is mixed with a school decile ranking of 6. Community population and Roll numbers are growing, and this should continue. Parents are very positive and supportive of programmes and events.

The Home & School Association is active in fundraising, supporting School Programmes, donating Resources and is a vital link between teachers and parents.

Buildings have been upgraded, including classrooms, toilets, library, technology room and a MLE (Modern Learning Environment) upgrade of our Main Block in Jan/Feb 2014. A combined Board and Home and School initiative saw the building of a new Senior Adventure Playground in 2011. This is to be extended in 2016/17. Asphalting of the whole school court area was completed for the start of the 2015 school year.

Our school and community swimming pool has a new heat pump and operates from November to March.

Our community hall was opened in June 2006 and includes OSCAR, which operates before and after school and provides holiday programmes.

The School environment, of which we are very proud, is attractive both for learning and play.
